Bethel CME Church

Seattle, WA

Bethel CME Church was designed for a predominantly Afro-American congregation located in the heart of Seattle's Central Area while serving as lead designer for Bridges and Burke Architects. The non contextual curvilinear nature of the space was intended to manifest an other worldly place of celebration and worship with a skylit altar sited to enliven spirits with sunlight during Sunday morning services.  Classrooms, offices, service spaces and a multi-purpose assembly area were located in a daylit basement that looked out and into a garden sunken to shield it from the busy streets above.
